About BHEI
-
BHEI transforms traditional clinical shadowing into a structured, progressive learning experience. Students begin by observing the clinical environment and gradually advance into supervised hands-on learning, patient communication, history-taking, and physician-led medical education. Each stage builds upon the last, allowing students to develop greater confidence, understanding, and familiarity with the realities of patient care.
-
BHEI is built around education, mentorship, professionalism, patient respect, and meaningful clinical exposure. We believe students learn best when they are encouraged to ask questions, actively engage with their environment, and develop skills through appropriate guidance and supervision. Above all, patient care, privacy, comfort, and consent remain central to every educational experience.
-
BHEI was founded by Alejandra A. Beharrie, an experienced Medical Assistant and Practice Manager, after hearing fellow pre-medical students express the challenges they faced finding meaningful clinical shadowing opportunities. Recognizing that her own experience working within a medical practice gave her access to resources that could benefit other aspiring healthcare professionals, she decided to extend those opportunities to fellow students.
From that idea, she developed a structured five-day educational model combining clinical observation, supervised hands-on learning, mentorship, and physician-led medical education within a working pediatric nephrology practice. What began as a way to make meaningful clinical exposure more accessible has grown into a structured program designed to help future healthcare professionals learn, participate, build confidence, and grow.
